Frequently Asked Questions

The following application materials are required to be considered for a research grant:

1. Cover page with the following information: name, current program degree and status, name of affiliated school, mailing address, email, and phone number
2. Resume
3. Official graduate transcripts (year-to-date). If 1-2 semesters of graduate coursework is not available, please submit official undergraduate transcripts.
4. Written responses to the prompts included in the application are required. As part of the application, students will choose one of the sample topics outlined in one of the following groups:
   • Group #1 Healthcare Policy and Operations
   • Group #2 Healthcare Regulation and Law
   • Group #3 Healthcare Issues for Investigative Reporting.

5. One sample paper that you have completed for your graduate degree program.

• An example of a research topic is the impact of legislated acute care nurse staffing levels on the following: nursing professional job satisfaction, the patient experience, and the standard nursing quality indicators as part of nursing Magnet status accreditation.

• The average grant funding level is expected between approximately $1,000-$5,000 depending on the associated research topic/project.

• After all application materials are received, we anticipate you receiving an answer from IHF regarding your application and next steps within one month.

• The time to completion may vary by assigned research topic. However, we expect that most final projects can be completed within 3-6 months of grant selection.

• Healthcare administrative grant award opportunities are highly competitive and allow candidates to stand out as they enter the job market. Through this IHF grant award, you will get the opportunity to pull together research and content on topics that aren't fully studied or publicized. Depending on the grant topic, some grantees will also have access to a preceptor who is an executive leader in the healthcare field. The preceptor will serve as a valuable resource to the grantee during the development of the research paper and beyond.

• Depending on the assigned grant project, many grant recipients will have access to a preceptor in the healthcare realm who is familiar with the topic. These preceptors have considerable healthcare experience and include leaders of academic healthcare systems, faculty at accredited academic healthcare degree-granting programs, or part of other healthcare delivery systems. Preceptors will provide guidance to the student throughout the research paper's development, including assistance with identifying primary and secondary sources, etc.
